Digital Banking: Where to Next?

Covid-19 has made digitalisation a must. Mobility restrictions have accelerated the use of digital platforms across industries worldwide, including banking. Cash transactions dried up and customers have quickly adopted digital channels. As an example, Spanish banks have reported a rise of up to 200% in the use of their mobile apps and websites during the quarantine period. What changes will financial service provider need to make to maintain this momentum?
On the other hand, despite its high-tech image, Japan is one of the most cash-based economies in the advanced world, with a cashless ratio below 20%, versus 96% in South Korea and 66% in China. What are the challenges that Japanese banks face in becoming more digital, and how can they be overcome?
On September 30 (Wednesday) at 18:00JST, the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Japan (SpCCJ) organises an online seminar together with our Corporate Member Mormedi, inviting Japanese retail bank Sony Bank and Spanish online payment provider Bizum, to discover the current movements of digital transformation in the financial industry.

Jaime Moreno, founder and CEO of Mormedi
Born and raised in Madrid, Jaime started studying Architecture at the Polytechnic de Madrid but shortly after moved to Switzerland where he studied Industrial Design at the Art Center College of Design.
Jaime started his career as a design consultant for Philips in The Netherlands. A few years later, in 1998, his entrepreneurial mindset took him to found Mormedi, a strategic design consultancy that innovates through customer experience, delivering service design, physical design and digital experiences and has representation in Mexico and Japan. Over the last 20 years Jaime has worked on innovation projects for banking clients such as Santander, Bankia, and BBVA.
Noriko Rzonca, Executive Director, DX Strategy & Content Planning at Sony Bank
Noriko earned her Ph.D. in Psychology in the U.S., focusing on Research and Evaluation Methodology. Her career started at Allstate insurance company in the U.S., where she worked in the Actuarial R&D dept. In 2006, she returned to Tokyo, and worked at Citi group for 8 years on marketing analytics, pricing elasticity, customer segmentation, and P/L forecasting.
At Sony Bank, she is currently in charge of branding, CX design, DX strategy including data analytics, and global services strategy. She also works to promote change management, cross-functional.
Fernando Rodríguez Ferrer, Business Development Director at Bizum
Fernando studied Industrial Engineering at the Polytechnic de Madrid and Spanish Philogy at Uned. He also holds a master’s in industrial technology and Management from the Illinois Institute of Technology and has upgraded his studies with a Management Skill of Emerging Leaders course from Harvard Extension School.
He has over 12 years of experience working in Financial Services and Strategy Consulting for different firms such as Accenture, BBVA and Opinno. Since 2017, Fernando has been in charge of Business Development at the Spanish Fintech Bizum.
José Esteves, Associate Dean for MBA & TECHMBA at IE Business School
José Esteves is Associate dean for full-time MBA programs (IMBA and TECH MBA) and professor of Information Systems at IE Business School. He believes it is the way people interact with digital technologies, that will determine the success or failure of its adoption and implementation. In addition to his research and teaching, He continues to act as a consultant to a number of companies and coaching CIOs and CXOs. Consulting provides fieldwork, data and results.
